It seems like Windows Live Mail Desktop will break integration with
Windows Contacts and Windows Calendar...

We have officially announced Windows Live Mail Desktop, which is an
email client based on Windows Vista's Windows Mail that will be part of
Windows Live. When it becomes available, users can download it for
Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Windows Live Mail Desktop

It's official, we have announced that we are working on Windows Live
Mail Desktop and a beta release will happen in a few months.

Windows Live Mail Desktop is an email client that can be downloaded onto
Windows XP or Windows Vista. It will be a rough super-set of Windows
Mail in Windows Vista.

We are starting a team blog for Windows Live Mail Desktop on
http://spaces.msn.com/MoreThanMail.

Press coverage:

Other Windows Live announcements at this time are:
A new feature in Virtual Earth: http://preview.local.live.com/
Windows Live Family Safety Settings (Code Name "Vegas")
Windows Live Identity (Previously Passport)
Windows Live FolderShare

Here is a screenshot of Windows Live Mail Desktop

This screenshot shows the entire width of the screen.

Great! But...

does this imply Windows Mail will not support Windows Live Mail? The
need for Windows Live Mail Desktop seem to imply so...

If so, they should do this in Windows Mail and not in a separate
program. It just makes me feel that MS is going for more Windows Live
names...

P.S. ummm since the majority of users don't have a POP3 or IMAP e-mail
account, explain the uses of Windows Mail? or would it just becomes yet
another MS redundant product...?

How do you figure that? I would say that the opposite is true, as the vast
majority of ISPs (certainly in the UK anyway) POP3 email as a standard, and
GMAIL supports the use of POP3 too.

Windows Live Mail Desktop and Windows Mail will, supposedly, coexist in
Vista without problems.

StarFerret said she'd rather not have to wait a few months. She's a greedy

Well, you'll have to educate StarFerret to be patient in this case; as
we all have to, if we like it or not. ;-)
