I already did that today, and I got the answer: 'Validation complete. thank
you for validating your copy of ms windows. you now have access...' etc.

looks like the real thing, doesn't it! but no; after reboot I get the same
message, and in the bottom right corner of my desktop, underneath 'windows
vista TR, RC1' , it says: 'this copy of windows is not genuine'.

drives me nuts! so, it doesn't work here on vista!

thanks for trying, and I am waiting for another syuggestion!

My understanding is that downloaded genuine advantage validation tools are
not yet supported on Vista. If you downloaded a validation tool to get
access to a free download then you have installed a tool that is only
supported on XP and earlier. You can get defender updates in Vista via
Windows Update.

whatever happened happened, but all of a sudden everything is OK! just
started up my pc, and lo and behold, it starts downloading a defender update
right away! no more ' invalid copy of windows' in the lower right hand
corner either. validation: OK. ??

I'll do a complete backup NOW, before it's too late!

thanks for your help.
