Do you have real player installed on your system. If yes, that might be the
culprit, check the options to be sure it isn't set to connect to check for
news or updates as that is its default.
Applications don't necessarily have to have anything to do with connecting
to the Internet. As is the case with Real Player, you may have an
application set to check for updates and might be doing so when the system
boots. You need to check your applications for such options. Antivirus
software might be checking for new virus definitions. You're e-mail program
may be set to check for e-mail on when the system boots.
Something else you might do. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, select
Internet Options, go to the Connections tab and select "Never dial a
connection," click apply and ok and see if that helps resolve it.
Go to Start and type msconfig in the run box and press enter. Go to the
startup tab and look for anything that might cause the system to dial out
when you boot. NOTE: these may not even show up in the Startup folder. You
might also look at the Services tab but I'm reluctant to have you disable
anything there. It would be better to find the application that is the
source of the problem and disable the option.
