      8th Dec 2006
An Outlook 2007 PST file is compatible with Outlook 2003 and contains all of
your data (email, contacts, etc.).

If you have saved your Word, Excel, etc. files in the old format and not the
zip format you can open them. I do that back and forth all the time. If they
are in the new formats you would be able to view them with the viewers but
not work on them.

Actually you can open, edit and create in the new file format with previous
versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint when you install this compatibility
pack;

Just a word of caution: Don't install the compatibility pack until
*after* you removed the Office 2007 Beta. If you install it beforehand,
you'll render the beta useless.
Also, save all your files in addition to the 2007 formats in the 97-2003
formats as a precaution.
