To me, KeyNote is a little too complex, but Treepad is a little too
primitive. For example, Treepad notes are in plain text so there
aren't working hyperlinks. But Golden Section notes uses rich text
format so you can make hyperlinks and format the notes any way you
want; also the notebook-style interface is attractive.

You realize Treepad has hyperlink capability though? -- just appears as
plain text vice HTML-style links and you activate via toolbar or ctrl-H.

Where both Keynote and Treepad excel is in searching. Both allow for Boolean
expressions -- much more powerful than the standard search function.

(Note : With Treepad you have to download the freeware viewer to get the
Boolean search capability.)

Keynote offers more sophisticated internal links than Treepad though there
are workarounds for that in Treepad. Keynote also offers the ability to
insert images -- at the expense of file size and you can "simplify" the
interface to your liking.

Combine Treepad with Irfanview and you have a nice alternative to HTML or
Keynote without the associated bloat associated with images inserted into
RTF. (Associate image file with Irfanview, activate link in Treepad.)

The trick is in thinking "outside the box."

FWIW. . . If you have Treepad open (I always do) you can convert things
to plain text easily - paste into Treepad and copy. . .

I use both for some projects. Import .csv file to Treepad, export to
Keynote, from there export nodes as "individual" files. . .
