Hi and thanks for your info.. i'm having simalar
problems... i've got win2k sp4 with an intel 845gebv2l..
with only one pci slot used... it does have 6 pci slots..
and does use onboard audio and video... but i've tried to
modems... supermax from diamond.. with software that can
serve as answering machine and also the creative modem
blaster that suposedly offers answering machine/fax/ and
voice.. as it has mic in and speaker out.. my device
drivers show no 'conflict'... but when i try the dialer..
with either of these softwars... one being.. 'faxtalk' and
the other being supervoice with the creative... v9.2.. my
mouse will lock up... for some time then release.. and of
course it will not record inbound messages.. or allow me
to call out... i've been on the phone with creative for
several hours... exploring various options with no luck..
and diamond has no support any longer... sooo i'm up the
creek right now... i've reformatted.. reloaded... and i do
know that hyperterminal works just fine... but when you go
to using the modem supplied software... she locks up for
ohh bout 3 to 5 minutes then it will release the mouse..
so anything you can tell me would be great... please feel
free to email me at (E-Mail Removed) and thank you

If it's just not working right sharing IRQs, and using the newest
drivers doesn't do it.... Here's how to change it quick and dirty.

First, there's no guarantee this will fix it.
All this will do is let 2K give everyone their own IRQ.
First I would reccommend making sure in the BIOS that there are no
IRQs assigned to any of the unused PCI slots. This won't necessarily
prevent the IRQs from being shared in Windoze, but if there's enough
stuff on the motherboard looking for it's own IRQ after you do this,
it would help to have freed up as many as you can.

Go into device manager and click on the + sign next to Computer at the
top of the list. It will expand to show the ACPI driver.
Open it up, click the driver tab, and click the button to update the
driver. Should open up the standard Win search and destroy functions.
Don't let Win look for a driver; click the option to bring up a list.
When it shows you your options, click on the option to show all
hardware of this device class. Presto, you have a list of drivers!

You note there are multiprocessor drivers/HALs and lots of different
stuff. "Standard PC" will designate separate IRQs for each device
that needs them. If you pick this HAL, several things will happen;
System will reboot numerous times (of course).
System will redetect everything.... no, make that EVERYTHING!
It'll find every chip, feature, card.....
It'll start right around the RTC and chipset on the mb and go from
there up thru CPUs, keyboards, options, monitors, cards, the works.
It would behoove you to have all your latest drivers onhand unless you
want to go back later and update everything.

When it's finally finished, you should have separate IRQs for each
device that needs them (assuming there's enough to go around).

Going from ACPI to standard pc, you may lose some of the power options
in windows. As I recall, the options will no longer be greyed out if
you get a wild hair and decide to swap around the IRQs and specify
which one goes to which device.

Some people claim this wouldn't work, or if they tried it, didn't work
for them. It worked for my older A7V mb running SP2. I don't have
the mb anymore after upgrading. I assume, but don't know, if it'll
work on SP4.

As I understand it (haven't tried it), you can accomplish the same
thing by hitting the <F5>{?} button when you're doing a fresh install
of Winders at the right time {which I don't know}. Myself, I have so
much stuff installed and tweaked to hell, I hate reinstalling.
I would suggest a backup first tho.

Good luck and lemme know....
