If your network does not have a DNS server, then you would set up the
HOST file to resolve hostname/IP addresses locally. In which case
every computer needs to have the same settings in the file, a central
DNS server only needs one copy maintaining.
Removing it will do nothing really as its kept blank usually except
the localhost entry (127.0.0.1).
