let this be a BIG lesson. Pick up "From serf to surfer" which is out of
print but can be had for $100 and worth it since you lost your shirt and
could have been sued so feel lucky! You HAVE TO HAVE contracts (signed), no
excuse. $50/hr is too low to be profitable....I assume you have no ENO
insurance. If you are not familiar with a device 1) you shouldn't be
working with it and going with a hard quote 2) you shouldn't bill for any
learning curve. Take it on the chin and don't let it happen again. If you
plan to do this for a living you need to do it right or someone will sue
your ass off. You have no case for collection. In the future, you may want
to leave access for yourself in case you need to "disable" something in
order to get payment if you know what I mean.

Are you saying what I think you are saying?

Do you suggest to routinely implement some sort of backdoor into the
customers system, so that you can come back at will and tamper with
their system, if you get an argument about payment?

I apoligize beforehand if I've got it all wrong, but I've read your
statement several times and I can't find another interpretation.
You can call me naive, but if you really mean this, I'm chocked.

We don't have the same tradition of sueing people in Europe as in the
US, but this would get you into BIG legal trouble here.
