Hi Don,

About the C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage folder. As explained in Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article KB281449:

"Windows File Protection (WFP) handles the folders under the Winlogon process.
There is no practical way to remove the folders, but the folders can be hidden
from view." For more information, see:

KB281449 - Error Message Occurs When You Attempt to Delete Folders
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=281449

About fp98swin.exe. Just like the aforementioned folder, this file is protected by
WFP. And if you view its properties sheet you will see this description: Microsoft
FrontPage Server Administrator. Server Extensions allow Microsoft Office, FrontPage,
and Visual InterDev to connect to the Web server.

A search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base for "fp98swin.exe" returns the following
articles. And if you are in doubt about your particular version of fp98swin.exe, you
can use the File Signature Verification Tool to ensure that it has been digitally
signed by Microsoft. For more information about File Verification, search Windows
2000 Help for "File Signature". NOTE: In sigverif.exe, use the Advanced button to
reveal option boxes where you can specify that it checks fp98swin.exe only. Then,
after you have scanned fp98swin.exe, use the Advanced button again to View Log.

BTW, I have never installed any version of Microsoft FrontPage, however I have a
C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin folder. Also, fp98swin.exe is on
my system in the C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache folder.

: I noticed the folder c:\program files\microsoft
: frontpage\version3.0\bin on my Window 2000 server. I had
: not installed frontpage version 3 on the machine so I
: checked the add/remove programs to see if I could
: uninstall. It was not an available option. I tried to
: delete the folders and got a sharing violation. When I
: deleted the file in bin fp98swin.exe it was immediately
: restored to the folder. I went into safe mode and deleted
: the folders, but when I restarted the folder structure
: reappeared. I submitted the files to Symantec and was told
: they were not malicious. Any thoughts? Are these system
: files?
:
: Thanks for any help.
