You should not have AVG scanning your emails. Uninstall AVG, then
reinstall it using the custom install option whereby you can unselect
the email scanning module.

I am not sure about my problem. I have Vista with Mail and free AVG. The
email scanner will not stay functional. How can I make it stay on as to not
have to activate it each day. Thanks

If I unselect scan emails on AVG do I have something else scanning them for
viruses. Thanks

Yes, the real-time scanner protects all files including email files.
