Hi Harry,
Try installing one of those games or applications again after
you uninstall it from Control Panel / Add-remove programs.
It sounds almost as if it has an outdated path to your CD Rom
drive when it's looking to verify the CD or it's a similar issue
with another file that it's looking for which is no longer at the
same partition (drive letter) location as it was originally. GL! :-)

| I get the following message (referring to my harddisk)
| right after launching any of the Sims games, as well as
| ArcSoft's Greeting Card Creator application:
|
| "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into
| drive \Device\harddisk\Dr1"
|
| I do not have a removeable harddisk -- all I have is the
| standard drive-C harddisk. The only way out is to power-
| off the system, since clicking on either the "retry"
| or "cancel" buttons just re-displays the same msg.
|
| Just curious if anyone else has run into this situation.
| I've tried re-installing each application several times,
| making sure that no other application is running while
| doing the install (per the sw vendors), but same result.
