I am sure that the horrors you describe are prevalent throughout the retail
industry, and certainly BEST BUY is not alone in its practices. From a
consumer point of view, the thing that I find most onerous about BEST BUY is
that during the past six months they have ratcheted up their prices,
tightened up on price matching and started getting much stricter with their
return policy. This is not the same BEST BUY that I first shopped at
several years ago. I'm not sure why you left BEST BUY, and I am not
directing this comment at you, but I would imagine that anyone with a
conscience would have a hard time reconciling their feelings with BEST BUY's
policies. Somehow, Circuit City just seems to be much more consumer
conscious-- better price matching and more liberal return policies. Thanks
for your candor Gavyn.

three weeks ago I went in to buy 3 laptops for work, they were to come with
three Epson printers for free, one for each laptop. They were out of stock on
the printers and docking stations I needed so they said no problem, we'll order
the printers and docks from Bestbuy.com and they will ship right out to you.

Cool :-)

Well, a week later I get a really big box from bestbuy.com.

Guess what was inside?

3 Epson printers

3 laptop docking stations

&

3 Laptops identicle to the three that I took home with me from the Best Buy
store where I paid for all of this.

waiting for the bill.

What I don't like about Circuit City, at least around here, is as
soon as you step through the door I'm pounced upon like a friggin
prey animal by sales droids, If any of them actually knew
enough to help I wouldn't mind, but few can even thell we where
in the store something might be if its not a big ticket item.

Only two things really matters to me, Price and Return policy,
not necessarily in that order given how many lies of omission are
in the ads these days, and how much computer stuff just plain
doesn't work on a significant number of systems that exceed the
"minimum requirements" stated on the box.

I stopped shopping at CompUSA when they changed their return
policy and I'll stop using Best Buy if they change theirs
(haven't bought any computer or electronics gear in a couple of
months). Thanks for the heads up! I got burned when Microcenter
quietly changed their policy and haven't been back there since.

My printer broke two weeks ago and I needed one fast so I went to "best buy"
rather than searching online. The salesperson was overly pushing the canons.
I told him I didnt like canons because the print head was not replaced when
you change the cartridge and can get gunked up faster. He said thats what
the extended warrantee was for. Sorry, Im not buying a $30 warrantee on a
$100 printer just to fix what I consider a design flaw. I opted to go with
an HP which had better specs for the same price. When I checked out I had
two cashiers hound me to get an extended warrantee then a third abandoned
her lane to come over and pitch the warrantees. To make matters worse, I
got home and Office Max had the same printer for $22 cheaper ($2 cheaper and
a $20 gift card). Luckily worst buy price matched. Its the last time I shop
there. I felt like I was at a flea market in Mexico with sales people
pushing crap I didnt want to buy. A truly unpleasant shopping experience.

In the future Im going to stick to my policy and only buy online. Well I
still will shop at some local stores that usually have good deals (office
max, office depot, staples) but worst buy wont get another dime from me.

Take a lesson in non-English language. Nothing says no better than
communication difficulity. When I go to Best Buy, salesperson don't
bother me since none of them knows sign language.

I just tell the pushy salespeople and cashiers that my homeowners insurance
covers everything, or that I have business insurance. That shuts them up
immediately and stops the sales pitch. Of course they had to price match,
otherwise you would have returned the printer on the spot and gotten 100
percent of your money back.

I told them about your homeowners insurance, but they didn't believe
me.
