Am happily running 8GB PC6400 5-5-5-15 of Geil Black Dragon at 1080Mhz
on a 680i sli Mobo at the same timings. No crashes or problems and
only a small bump in volltage to get these running perfectly at the
overclocked speeds.

Good for you. These issues are very mobo-specific.
