You can boot with your Win98 startup disk and issue the command
sys C:
this will rewrite the boot sector, then you can delete these files boot.ini,
ntldr, ntdetect.com, bootsect.dos, pagefile.sys and possibly ntbootdd.sys
from the root of the System partition C:\

There is no uninstall. To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000
install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install disks can be created
from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the
CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and
follow the prompts. Then choose the format the second partition and continue
the install.

converted the file system to NTFS(Caution Converted and not Formatted)now I
can't see this D: Drive from C: in which Win 98 is loaded(understandable). My
Windows 2000 system got slow so I want to remove everything from it and load
freshly. Is it good practice to format before deleting not useful data. Is
there any way to uninstall operating system . If I format D drive will it be
seen from my C drive (since D drive has been converted to NTFS and not
formatted) I don't want to Format, I want all the data to be removed before
uninstalling operating system and go back to fat32 system ,is that possible.

order to uninstall how should it be done(windows2000server).

| Thank you for your solution. Before going into it, I would like to
clarify few things...As you said when I isuue command sys C: this will
rewrite the Boot sector, but I dont want to distrurb my C: drive as its
loaded with win98 and doing fine.
* Normally all this does is write a new boot sector to the system partition
so win9x starts at boot without the Windows 2000 boot loader appearing. But
yes always have backups of critical data before hand.

I would like to remove only win2000server from D drive which is in NTFS file
sys (converted). Can't I goto Dos Prompt from Start--->Run--->Command. From
here going to D drive and deleting files you mentioned. will this work with
out any trouble.And install cleanly.
* You can't delete the operating system while it is running. If you simply
delete the partition be aware that win9x may shift E:\ to D:\ If this is a
problem then boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup disks and format
the partition as fat 32 and abort or continue the install as desired.

Hi RAM,
Here is the information to Repair Install.
Afterward reinstall SP4 and Hotpatches

Hi Jessica,

Probably would be good to do an Inplace Upgrade. Here are links I
have.
(Repair Install)

How to Perform an Inplace Upgrade:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=292175

What this does and does not effect:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=306952

How to expand the Boot Partition while performing and Inplace
Upgrade:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q289876

Must have Administrator Privileges

After you are through with the Inplace, you will need to reinstall
SP4 and
go here to look at all of the Updates after SP4 and only use the ones
you
need, like the Security Updates and then if you use foreign
languages, you
could install those, but if you don't use any foreign languages,
don't
install them. Those just allow foreign hackers to use your updates.

Anyway here is SP4 location(you can d/l the network version, if you
may need
to do it again ( won't have to spend the d/l time after (save it in
your My
Documents folders, if you choose to do it this way.

SP4

Updates
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/

You can also use the standard Windows Update to look at any updates
that you
may miss.

Here is another handy Utility Called Belarc Advisor. www.belarc.com
d/l and
install it to get your CD Key Code, all your hardware, all your
software,
and much more and it is not invasive at all. and the best part, it is
free
for now only for private use.

Hope this doesn't look overwhelming. It is really good information
and
straight to the point.
