I bought Vista Home Premium (full version) to use on a new PC I bought. I
installed it and activated it, but the PC died the next day and was returned
to Dell as defective. My replacement PC arrived a week later, and I
installed the same Vista which now will not activate because it was activated
previously (on a PC that is sitting in a Dell scrapheap somewhere). Any idea
on how I can get that first PC key cancelled so that I can use it on the PC
that I actually do have, and so that I didn't waste a ton of money by buying
an OS for a defective PC that I returned to the manufacturer?

Use the telephone activation option.
