I am using a thing called active ports and every once in a while it
shows a connection attempting to ev1.net which was the ISP I used
about a year ago (have since reformatted drive many times

It shows a connection on port 508 TCP and I traced it to ev1....Once
it was trying on a port that is used for remote assistance.

What do you make of this? What should I do.

TIA

Yes, it was Hackarmy.i

Now then, where to get a free or good trojan cleaner?

TIA

Tell me it ain't so! <g>

I use Active Ports on a routine basis. It's in the Startup folder and it's
one of the first things that starts on the computer so I can see what's
happening. Malware that may compromise a machine can and does start and
connect out before application that's designed to detect and stop it has
even started. So, one has got to look for themselves from time to time. <g>

Pest Patrol even thinks that Sam Spade for Windows is a pest:

On my part, the only thing I run is Ad_Aware on a routine basis. If I
provide a link to someone it's about what it is and how to resolve the
issue O/S wise and nothing else.

The protection IMHO starts with the O/S and everything else is secondary
to it. That includes the AV, FW, router, AD_Aware or any thing else of
that nature. The buck stops at the O/S, if configured properly. And of
course, one's common sense in not using the *Happy Fingers* that clicks
on unknown stuff or does stupid things that lead to the compromise.

Thanks for the response Duane.
I have everything pretty much covered, but I did do the "stupid thing"
Nortons said there was no virus in it, so ...... I noticed attempts
out, using Active Ports and cleaned it with Trojan Remover
(trial....sheesh!). Am thinking maybe to purchase TR, or at least
stop trying to install Britney and Christina screensavers <grin>

Thanks again.
