Have to use Microsoft updates because Win defender cannot seem to get its
own updates. There's no place that I can find to setup the proxy server,
and Win Defender doen't pick up the proxy settings from IE6

Windows Defender uses AutoUpdate. I'm told that AutoUpdate can't work over
a proxy that requires authentication. The solution is to set the proxy up
so that AutoUpdate requests can connect without authentication but only to
the Windows Update servers.

Windows Defender should pick up proxy settings from IE6.

How does AutoUpdate work on your network?
