Problems changing Remote Desktop configuration

all clients are Windows XP/SP2

if I configure a connection from one XP to another XP and save the settings,
anytime I want to change the settings for that connection the initial
settings re-appear, even if I delete the file where I saved the settings and
start from scratch. ie. I saved it originally without username, password and
domain. I added those values and did a save as, overwriting the original
saved file. If I go to change it again, the username, password and domain
names are gone again. On some workstations I can use my local printer as
default printer for the session, on some I can not, though all printers are
configured identically.

I believe that somewhere there are hidden settings or a cache that needs to
be cleared, so that I can start from scratch.

How do I wipe out the settings so that I can build a connection from scratch
or override any previously defined and saved connection settings? I was
trying to add the local printer as the default printer for the connection but
it is not happening. Other clients connecting to the workstation can use
their local printers as default, but they were also initially configured to
do so. If I try to rebuild a connection from any of those that do work, I get
the same problem. The initial settings override any new settings I try to
make, even if I delete the 'Save As' and try to build to connection from
scratch.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. I posted this topic on the sbs2k3
forum before I found this forum. sorry for cross posting.
