Problems with Catalyst 3.8 and Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour

I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with a Radeon AIW 9000 with
Catalyst drivers 3.8. Whenever I play C&C Generals or Zero Hour, the
screen flashes and all of the building, vehicles, and men are
semi-transparent. If I revert back to Catalyst driver 3.7, then
everything is ok. I don't have this problem with my Biostar IDEQ
200N, which has the NFORCE 2 chipset and a Radeon 9600 Pro. Is this a
problem peculiar to the 9000 AIW cards?

I have the same problem with my ATI 9100, went back to 3.7 to solve problem
It appears that the problem is with the 8500 to 9200 series (Direct X 8.1
GPU), using 3.8
The Direct X 9.0 GPU cards ( 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800) do not seem to have the
problem, with 3.8

Try disabling heat effects in C&C:G video options (it doesn't get saved
when you reload the game!). My game screen goes black.

According to the release notes there should be no changes to generals.
They must have implented a bug anywhere...so it seems we have to wait
for catalsyst 3.9 or downgrage to 3.7.

I think I will downgrade because, there are no more improvements to my
old Radeon 64 DDR and at the moment generals is my newest game, so i
don't need new drivers...

I have Radeon 9600 pro with w2k sp4 and dx 9.0b and catalyst 3.8. Same
here: in the middle of the game screen goes black. Funny thing is that
all key/mouse controls work and sound also. So far I found a funny
solution but it works:
when black screen happens I press my power button on pc (set to
initiate STAND BY), machine goes to standby and then I just press it
again to return from sleep. And whoaaa: graphics is back and so is the
game...I guess I'll wait for catalyst 3.9...

Didn't try to turn off the fog though (as one suggested before)...
