Problems with the automatic update!!

Hi everyone!
Recent attempts to update my XP-Version seem to get a problem. Every time I
try to do the update, the pc stops at the site where it says that the update
process will look for the current version and that this might take some
minutes. It just stops. Can anybody help me???
