Situation: Old PC has XP with all updates. I just got
the new PC, so I assume XP there is current. I can launch
F.A.S.T Wizard on both. The old PC could not autodetect
the serial connection I had, as it was looking only for
COM4, and the connection is on COM1. I have since learned
that would be too slow anyway. I then set up the wizard
on the old machine to collect data on the D drive (CD-R).
The wizard tells me it has 250 mb of data, insert the
disc. It starts burning for a while, then the light on
the burner goes out, the Wizard says it is still copying
files, the little icons are flying, the green status bar
is frozen at ~80%, and the whole thing just hangs there
for 8 hours and never completes!!!! I have searched here
and on the Dell forums, but this problem has not been
addressed. I have wasted two nights already on this.
Please HELP!

I think it is a lot easier to just slave the old hard drive in the new
machine temporarily, copy the data off, and then put the old hard drive
back. Just be sure you make a note of the jumper settings so you can
move the jumper back to its original position when you return the drive
to its machine.
