My home network has been working fine for a week now, but I noticed something
new on my wife's laptop. (both XP Home machines, my desktop is wired to the
router, her laptop is wireless). We can still share documents, but on her My
Network Places screen, the router isn't there anymore, and my shared files
folder is under Internet instead of LAN. I asked her when that happened,
and she didn't know. She says she didn't change anything, but there was a
Windows update at one point. I noticed the situation while I was updating
Norton Internet Security (which hasn't given us any trouble yet).
I ran ipconfig and it checked out. I ran CPSServ and got the same results
as before. When I ran browstat I did get a difference:

On the desktop:
Status for domain DUNLAVEY on transport
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{4DEF434F-2939-4BCC-9346-15DCA5181A65}
Browsing is active on domain.

on the laptop:

I thought this was different last week, but I could be wrong. I did see
that her computer had reverted to the default NTBios setting, which I had
manually switched last week (and fixed today too).

In any case, I can't figure out what changed and like I said, it isn't
causing a problem yet, though I know it probably will eventually.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

The browstat logs show improvement. Last week, the laptop showed
>Status for domain DUNLAVEY on transport
>\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{4A3BC4D7-CF09-4102-A9CA-D97F672C943B}
> Browsing is NOT active on domain.

Now, both logs are symmetrical, with 2 servers in 1 domain (workgroup). The
error 53 is normal too.

If you have Norton Internet Security, that could well be the cause of the
computer ending up in Internet vs LAN. You have to check the zones in NIS, and
make sure that both computers are in Local vs Internet, on both computers.

Other than that, I'd say that you are good to go.
