problem with media files, office files and all image files

hello!
my problem is really strange. just a few days ago, i started noticing
problems with my media player files, word documents, powerpoint files,
jpeg files and even notepad files. the problem is that all these files
take about 1.5 minutes to load! but when an application is running and
i click and drag a file onto the application the file runs immediately.
i tried reinstalling windows and everything but the problem
persists.........please help me quick..........need to do important
work on my PC.
