Problem with broadband Internet connection

Our DSL service was just upgraded to 2mbps and we recieved a new DSL
Gateway with integrated wireless through which I'm connecting at 11mbps
with "low" signal strength. I can now connect to the internet with all
my online games, AOL Instant Messenger, BearShare, and just about any
application I desire EXCEPTING any of my web browsers. I've tried
Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, and Netscape, but none of them
will connect to any web site consistently. In IE, i see a message at
the bottom of the screen saying "Connecting to 1.0.0.0" when I try to
load a page. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I would
like to use Firefox, but I will settle for anything right now.
Thanks,
-Hukuis

That's the problem right there.

Why is it trying to connect to an inside address when u want to go
outside to the net?

Configure browse, if you have a proxy set, un-set it, leave it on
auto.

Check your PC's gateway address, it should be the address of the
router.

Check your IP netmask, for most people, this is 255.255.255.0

Check your DNS server, this shoud be an outside address, not 10.
whatever, not 192. whatever.

The above params can be viewed by opening a DOS window and give
command IPCONFIG /ALL

Best of luck.

I was asking the same thing myself, the default gateway is set
properly, and everything was working fine until I switched routers. I
remember in Windows 98 having to manually change a configuration file
to use the proper IP address when it wouldn't auto-configure properly
on its own. Is this possible with XP? I am just about ready to do a
full system re-install, because this is irritating me beyond belief.
