I have a home network comprised of: Dell 2350 & Compaq 1200 series notebook
w/ D-Link DCM200 cable modem, D-Link DI614+ wireless broadband router and
D-Link DWL650+ cardbus adapter in notebook. Also, connected to the Dell
2350 - both via USB connections - are an Epson Stylus 740 (default printer)
and Lexmark X85 all-in-one. Everything works great except for quirkiness of
the printers.
Problems? First of all, the Lexmark all-in-one won't work with the notebook
even though all the drivers (latest updates) are installed on both machines
and bidirectional support is enabled for both the Dell and Compaq. When I
try to print from the notebook, I get the Lexmark dialog box that tells me
the computer can't establish communications with the printer. But the Compaq
works fine with the other printer (Epson 740).
Then, if I try to print something on the Epson (from either the Dell or the
Compaq) after the Epson hasn't been used in a couple of days, I get another
quirky occurrence. The Epson goes through a head cleaning cycle, which it's
supposed to, and this takes a minute or so. Then I get a message that tells
me the document failed to print from the Epson system tray icon. But even
though I get the message that "print failed", it really does print.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled these printers several times... does
anyone have any ideas that might make the all-in-one print from the notebook
or make the error messages go away?
thanks!
