Hello,

I have two HDD on my PC, one with win 2000 (C:\ drive) and one with Win XP
(D:\ drive) , what I want is to prevent users logging in using Win Xp from
seeing the C:\ drive at all, even when installing softwares or games, not to
install on C:\ drive and by default get the D:\ drive.
Is there any way to do this?? Any help would be highly appreciated

N.B: both HDDs are NTFS

What you need is a 3rd party boot manager program.

With your current setup there are files on C: that are required for XP on D:
to boot.

With a proper boot manager each O/S is completely hidden from the other.

You will probably have to reinstall XP though, it's drive letter will become
C: as well.

No no no no.. Dont listen to this past post. It's totally wrong.

You have 2 Hard drives, C: and D:. Windows 2000 installed on the C: drive
and Windows XP installed on the D: drive.

What you need is a freeware tool called TweakUI. It will allow you to hide
drive. More specifically your D: drive can be hidden in Windows 2000 and your
C drive hidden in Windows XP.

Download the tool (google search) and install it on both Windows 2000 and
XP. Configure TweakUI to hide the respetive drives in the respective
operating system.

You do not have to worry about installing software onto the wrong drive. In
Windows 2000 the default path will be C:\program Files. This is because the
target drive for that OS is C:.

In Windows XP the default path will be D:\program files. This is because the
target drive for that OS is D:

If you wanted to you could go one step further, by assigning NTFS
permissions on the C: drive for only users of Windows 2000. And permissions
on the D: drive for only users of Windows XP.

OK now both of you listen to what I've done, not tools no other paties and
no tweaks, I just go to windows 2000, and on C:\ drive, right click
properties and then security and permissions, I removed "Everyone" and I
only assigned the user who is logging into win2000, now when I go to Win XP
and I double click on C:\, it gives the error box "Access is denied" so I
think my problem is solved now :-). if any one have an explanation that will
be great, anyway, thanx for your replies.

You left out a critical piece of information in your original post. The fact
that there is a single unique user logging into Windows 2000.
