Preparing to Install

Whenever I go after filed in Word or Excel a message pops
up saying Windows Installer, Preparing to Install. It
then takes about a minute to get the file in Windows XP.
How do I eliminate this problem? I have 1,7 GH.z, 128 mb
memory and 40 GB on hard drive.
