I'm getting ready to build a new system. Currently I have a Tbird 1ghz box
and want to go up to maybe a 2.4 ghz. Question is about power supply. I am
wondering with an average system like a 2.4 and Geforce 4, etc. will a 300
watt power supply cut the mustard?

thanks

300 350w would be ok but the overall consistency of the voltages is important also. Are you going to purchase separately? If not
and it comes with a case, you will pretty much be limited to whatever they want...however many cases can be bought without PSU's. It
really a crap shoot when it come to longevity a 50$US PSU of 350-400w would be mid range. I rather go cheaper on a case and put a
little more towards a PSU

PS you said in header current system ...were you thinking of keeping the old PSU for the new CPU? I don't know why but I missed
that the first time around...anyway the AGE would be a consideration....and how much over voltaging etc was done...IOW how much
added strain. If you can afford an upgrade and the age thing gives you doubts...go4it
