Is there a way in C# or VB.NET to read the content of the Pocket Outlook
Inbox so that I can look for an email Subject containing a particular phrase
eg 'Vital Data' and subsequently copy the email body into a string?

If you are targeting Windows Mobile 5.0 or later devices, you should
checkout the Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook namespace.

It's not a feature of the standard Windows Mobile 5.0 managed APIs but there
is some additional functionality to do this (for Email and SMS) in this
library - http://www.inthehand.com/WindowsMobile.aspx
