I need to build a new peer-to-peer network for the office. It's important for the MoBo's
to have the following features:

Support att least P4 1.7mHz
Has onboard video and NIC
Onboard audio will be nice
at least 2-3 PCI slots
DURABILITY

My budget for each PC is up to $300. Can you suggest a MoBo?

Do you need another PC or do you need a network? If you need a
network, why not just buy routers/switches or hubs? If you need a
cheap PC, buy one from eBay or get the special of the week from Office
Depot, Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, etc...

For that budget forget Intel processors, this board if rock solid and with
an XP2000 or so should do anything you need it to do. No oclocking but it
would be stupid to oclock an office machine. I've built a bunch of systems
using this board and NONE have given any problems.

I haven't used this board, but I support the view. You get a nF220
board for $64, and ASUS and nVidia! The two most respected trademarks
in the AMD world. And a XP2000 will be almost twice as fast as a
1.7MHz on office apps.
Be careful about noise from fans though.

- Oh is it, now?
Well, I'm sure as hell not ashamed of cheering for AMD. and I'm not
making any secret of it either.

This does not suit you perhaps?

The estimate "_almost_ twice as fast" was based upon the relative
performance of my nephews XP1800+ relative to my 2.4GHz P4.
(last Intel I'm ever going to buy as long as AMD survives)(his 1800 is
noticably faster).

But you're right in asking for substance, so as for "unfounded":
Since you prompted me for it, I looked around for a general
application or business benchmark. Found one immediatly, at first try.
And behold, I wasn't too far off the mark:

Business Winstone 2002:
Athlon XP2000+ 32.8
Pentium 4 1.7GHz 22.6

What part of the following do you fail to comprehend?:

------------------------
General Usage Performance

Although not as performance-critical as content creation applications, it is
the set of every day applications like Office and other general usage
programs that the majority of users find themselves interacting with the
most, thus performance here is also very important.

Xp2400 35.5

Xp2000+ 32.8

P4 1.7 22.6
----------------------

They are building systems for office use and given the price of the cheapest
P4 is the 1.8Gh P4 is at $124,

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...116-134&depa=1

they could afford to get a XP2400/266 at $85

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...103-336&depa=1

and have some cash left over to buy extra ram/bigger drive. With the extra
ram and the faster chip why not go with AMD? For this application and the
budget of $300 per box, there is no reason to use an intel chip.
