I am operating on Windows XP, Home Edition. (I am not at all a wizard at the
computer and surely have problems understanding all the terms, etc.; so bear
with me.) Several weeks ago, I down-loaded the recent Windows XP
up-grade---although I was cautioned not to do this because the up-grade
package had some flaws in it, but I did anyway, much to my chagrin. Now I
have a problem in accessing documents. When I pull up my e-mail, the
pictures are blocked out and a red "X" appears. There is box that states
that pictures were blocked but I can click on the line and they will appear.
And so they do, and I can live with that.
However, now I cannot access some documents from government reports that are
available on the web. I can do this from my wife's computer which also
operated on Windows XP, Home Edition, but it has not been up-graded with the
"up-grade."
When I click on the document that I need, instead of bringing up the
document, the screen goes blank and a little red colored "X" appears in a box
at the top left hand corner of the page. I have tried unenabeling the
firewall (Norton Personal Firewall) but this has not worked. What do I need
to do to access the documents on the web instead of getting the blank screen
with the red "x"? I can only attribute this problem to the Windows XP
upgrade since it did not happen prior to that installation. Thanks
