Hi
I am looking for a photo printer for less than $500.
I am not concerned about speed only quality. I only expect to print about
four 8 x 10 prints and ten 4 x 6 prints per week. I could have them printed
elsewhere, but I enjoy printing my own.
From what I read it seems like the best photo printers in this range are the
Canon Photo i9900 and the Canon Photo PIXMA iP8500. It seems like they are
the same printer, except the i9900 will print up to 13" x 19".
I sure would appreciate receiving some opinions on this.
Thank you.
Jim

Take a look at the HP Photosmart 8750. It is a nine ink system with
excellent print quality. See:

If you would like a sample drop me an email - if you send me a jpg I
will make a print for you and send it back by mail.

You should go into your local shop with a pack of your favorite or
reccomended photopaper, jack in your digital camera, and see for your
self. Most stores are agreeable to this so long as you leave your
prints there... you get a clue and they get free prints to show others.
Do evaluate the ip6600D as well, less inks but smaller ink drops.

The ip8500 is a pixma sporting duplex and cd printing, where CD
printing isn't enabled by default on american models. The i9900 lacks
these two features. Both printers are near as i'm aware discontinued
pending new models. The i9900 is to be replaced by the pro9000 (dye)
and pro9500 (pigment). See
http://www.steves-digicams.com/pr/ca...xmapro_pr.html
I don't know what will replace the ip8500. The i9900 can be had easily
enough though places like newegg.com for about $425 shipped. The new
pro9000 may or may not be an improvement, the resolution according to
the website will be the same, drop size the same, nozzle count the
same, the ink however is the new chromalife100.

THE I9900 IS A GREAT PRINTER AND IT WAS JUST DISCONTINUED. THERE ARE
TWO WIDE CARRIAGE REPLACEMENTS THAT APPEAR TO BE AN IMPROVEMENT. THEY
NOW HAVE TWIN PAPER FEEDS BUT THEY DO NOT DUPLEX. ONE HAS i THINK 12
INK CARTS AND IS MUCH SLOWER THAN THE OTHER WHICH IS ABOUT THE SAME
SPEED AS THE QUICK I9900. I AM NOT SURE BUT I THINK THE SLOWER ONE WILL
DO A BETTER JOB WITH BLACK AND WHITE.

YOU CAN FIND OUT ALL OF THE DETAILS ON THE CANONUSA WEBSITE. I WOULD
EXPECT THAT REVIEWS WILL BE OUT SHORTLY. BE SURE TO USE OEM INK.
