Hi All

I've recently bought a new pc with Vista installed on it so I am a bit of a novice when it comes to Vista.

The problem I have is trying to install software. I have been trying to install office 2003 and it gets so far saying you dont have permission to delete the registry key software\classes\.tif..... please make sure you have permission to delete the relevant key or contact the IT dept.

I have gone into the registry and on the key it mentions, gave myself full control etc, then went into advanced and unticked include inheritable permissions.... and ticked replace all existing inheritable.... clicked on apply then it says registry editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys.

I have done a search on yahoo for this message and the solution is to log in as an administrator, thing is my account is an administrator account, as is the other account on my pc. I have gone into users in control panel, the only users i get are mine, my wifes account and the guest account which is turned off.

There is no administrator account listed, when i have tried to add one i get a message saying the account in that name already exists.

I have right clicked on computer and gone into manage but as its different to XP cant see the folder for local users and groups.

I have tried to install the Windows Vista software for my printer and I get access is denied and have also tried to download windows messenger and get access is denied.

Anybody else had problems with permission problems in Vista? If so, where you successful in fixing the problem, if so how? Also how do I get into the local admin user id because a) I have never set a password up for it and b) when at the main windows screen it only lists mine and my wife's accounts?

Thanks
Phil

Hello,

what if you try starting the installation exe files by right-clicking
them -> Run as administrator? It could help, please try and report back.

Greetings,

Hi Phil,

Administrator is de-activated by defªult. You are a super user, please try

Right click on the setup.exe or install, and select run as Administratºr.

Good luck
