I'll be there, will you?

For anyone that may be interested, I intend to join the "Jade Sea" world. I hope anyone here at PCReview will join me there.

It is my understanding that those Worlds listed are actual servers.

Fortunately, no one will be tied to the one world, however, transfers to another world will "cost" you 1,800 gems and a seven days per account wait in between hopping around. We will be getting a free 2,000 gems for this weekend tho.

More info on World changes ... Here

You will need to pre-order the game to be eligible for these Beta weekends.

I'm going to sticky this thread, anyone interested in GW2, please post your comments, questions and observations here.

Hopefully so Mucks - 35% downloaded even as we speak!!

I see that Kaineng is on the US server... hmm... would have been interesting to see how they'd transformed it from the original game.

Currently trying to decide on which Race and Profession to go for... atm I'm leaning toward Norn Mesmer... however, that might be subject to a change of mind (...I'm a woman, it's what we do!!) The Sylvari sound interesting.

For anyone who might be curious about the kind of Professions on offer, they are:

Quote:
Guardian
Guardians specialize in protective and defensive magic. A deep sense of loyalty to their allies fuels their passion and power. They're also skilled with a variety of weapons which they put to use against their enemies.

Warrior
Warriors are masters of martial skills. They rely on speed, strength, toughness and heavy armor to survive. They're versatile in combat and benefit from offensive and defensive abilities. Warriors inspire allies and demoralize enemies.

Engineer
Engineers are technological and alchemical masterminds. They employ turrets, grenades, elixirs, and a variety of other impressive devices and concoctions to overcome their enemies.

Ranger
Rangers are proficient with the bow. They rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature to slay their targets. Their loyal pets, which rangers tame and train, distract enemies while the rangers strike safely from a distance.

Thief
Thieves are adept at the art of stealth. They utilize surprise and shadow to get close to their enemies, and they're deadly in one-on-one combat. They have an affinity for setting traps and going where they were never meant to go.

Elementalist
Elementalists have harnessed Tyria's natural forces. Their powers of destruction are drawn from an affinity with the four elements that make up the world. They conjure air, fire, earth, or water to assault their enemies.

Mesmer
Mesmers are maestros of mirage. They wield mental magic that confounds, controls, or evokes emotion in their enemies. With a wave of the hand, they can shatter their own illusions to produce even greater special effects.

Necromancer
Necromancers are masters of the dark arts. They summon the dead to fight for them, channel blood energy, and rend the souls of their enemies. Necromancers draw on life force and use it to strengthen or heal themselves and others.
The playable Races are:

Quote:
Asura
These alchemagical inventors may be short in stature, but they're intellectual giants. Among the asura, it's not the strong who survive, but the clever. Other races believe they should rule by virtue of their power and strength, but they're deluding themselves. In due time, all will serve the asura.

Charr
The charr race was forged in the merciless crucible of war. It is all they know. War defines them, and their quest for dominion drives them ever onward. The weakling and the fool have no place among the charr. Victory is all that matters, and it must be achieved by any means and at any cost.

Human
Humans have lost their homeland, their security, and their former glory. Even their gods have withdrawn. And yet, the human spirit remains unshaken. These brave defenders of Kryta continue to fight with every ounce of their strength.

Norn
The race of towering hunters experienced a great defeat when the Ice Dragon drove them from their glacial homeland. Nevertheless, they won't let one lost battle - however punishing - dampen their enthusiasm for life and the hunt. They know that only the ultimate victor achieves legendary rewards.

Sylvari
Sylvari are not born. They awaken beneath the Pale Tree with knowledge gleaned in their pre-life Dream. These noble beings travel, seeking adventure and pursuing quests. They struggle to balance curiosity with duty, eagerness with chivalry, and warfare with honor. Magic and mystery entwine to shape the future of this race that has so recently appeared.
Though I believe I'm correct in thinking that a couple, (Asura and Sylvari(?)) are not completely ready just yet.

Be great if a few more from PCR should decide to give it a go

Me, I'll be playing as an Asura Necromancer, altho I like the look of an Asurian Ele, well, once we can play Asurains. So, in the meantime I'll try out as a Charr Necro, or maybe a Human necro ... heck, I'll probably try the bleeding lot.

This thread is dedicated to GW2 (so Mr Mucks, please don't shoot me for wandering ever-so-slightly off-topic...)

I was just going to suggest that the original GW games are now available for under a tenner each. So not a bad way to get a feel for the game first, even though GW2 is going to be even more huge and impressive.

You're very welcome CL - oh and don't forget, that GW2 is just having some Beta Weekends at the moment. It won't officially launch for a while yet... which means that any new players (of the original GW game) should still find in-game help available from other players. The "old" game hasn't been abandoned.... even at the moment, there's a festival going on, so quite a few extra goodies are being dropped and fun stuff to take part in.

Meanwhile.... and back on topic, it's here! The first Beta Weekend begins today.... yay!!!

Indeed TC, the "old game" is very much alive and active with the recent release of Winds of Change.

The Winds of Change is a Guild Wars Beyond storyline telling the events in Cantha seven years after the end of the Factions storyline. Winds of Change takes place in three phases: the first phase was released on July 7, 2011; the second on September 29, 2011; the final phase was released on February 9, 2012. oh, and its free.
