Have an XP home with new motherboard and new modem and
sound card from dell for warranty repairs. Plug and Play
will not recognize the new cards. This is the same
problem before motherboard was replaced. How do I get XP
to recognize the cards?

Bruce, try going to Control Panel>AdminTools>Services. Scroll down to
Plug and Play and make sure it's
started and set for automatic. Also it has to be enabled in the Bios.
