Everything was fine then I installed a mobile phone application, float
something or other.
The first thing that happened was that I.E kept saying it had to close
new tabs due to an error. So as a cop out I installed Firefox. This
works fine. But then Yahoo Messenger kept saying it had to close but
never finished closing and stopped the laptop from shutting down,
needing to be powered down. I tried reinstalling Messenger but didn't
help and have removed the mobile phone appication. Having a look today
I came across a registry check at brothersoft site whilst looking for
and earier version of messenger. This loaded up and started checking
but locked up soon after. That has now been removed. So to the next
plan, see if restoring to a previous day would help. But system
restore says error and that it has to close. So that plan is out the
window.
Any ideas (keep them simple)? Whats the best way forward?

BB, have you checked for malware such as virus, trojans, spyware etc.
You can do a free on line virus check http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and get these two
programs which have free versions. Adaware and Spybot Search and
Destroy.

Tried that it says I'm clean.
