Whenever I paste Excel charts into Word, the fonts end up looking terrible.
Is there an easy solution? Pasting as a picture does not work. The only thing
that does work is right clicking on the chart while in Word, selecting "Edit
Picture", then fixing the text that has changed position and direction. But
then my chart is no longer a simple picture. Help!

How are you pasting it?

I have no problem using the Word Insert Object command.

1 - In Excel, have the chart saved in its own separate .xls file, no
other worksheets.
2 - In Word, choose Insert>Object.
3 - Click on the Create from File tab and browse to the .xls file.
(Choose Link to file if you'll be making changes to the chart and you
want them transferred every time you open the Word doc.)
4 - Okay, voila, chart's in there looking fine. You can adjust the
overall size of the chart-object if it's too big for the Word page.

Does that help?

While the chart is still in Excel, format it exactly as it must appear in
Word. Make it the correct size, so it does not need to be resized in Word.
Then select the chart, hold Shift while selecting the Edit menu, and choose
Copy Picture (Shift changes Copy to Copy Picture). Choose the On Screen and
Picture (not Bitmap) options. Then go to Word and paste normally.

Thank you!! This fixed the problem. When copying the picture from Excel I
would right click on the picture and copy, then when I pasted it into Word my
only options were to paste as an Enhanced Metafile or an Excel Chart Object.
The method you describe allows me to paste the chart as a Windows Metafile,
which must be the fix. Also, the shift + Edit / Copy Picture method allows me
more options (i.e., as shown on screen or as shown when printed). I can't
tell you how grateful I am!!

Thanks for trying, but your method did not work for me. I couldn't get the
chart to look exactly as it was formatted when I inserted it as an object,
plus I have multiple charts in the same worksheet, and don't want a separate
file for each chart. I appreciate your help, though.

I was right clicking and pasting special, as Enhanced Metafile. I guess that
was the proble. I should have been pasting as Windows Metafile. The only way
to do that is by holding shift + Edit, then selecting Copy Picture. See post
following yours (from Jon Peltier) for full description. It works perfectly!
