partitioning USB flash drives

I have a 1 GB Lexar JumpDrive Secure and a 1 GB Kingston DataTraveler.
Using Windows' built in Disk Manager, I am able to create and format
multiple partitions on the Lexar, but not on the Kingston.

I am able to use Linux and MacOS X to partition the Kingston. Once the
Kingston is partitioned on another OS, I am still not able to access
the additional partitions under Windows.

The only possible cause that I have been able to identify is that
Windows sees the Lexar as a fixed disk and the Kingston as a removable
disk. Both use the USBStor driver.

Is there a way to support multiple partitions on the Kingston
DataTravelers? If multiple partitions is only supported by Windows on
fixed drives, then is there a way to force Windows to recognize it as a
fixed disk?

I have contacted Kingston's technical support a few times. The first
rep told me that their IT department had configured their desktops to
see the DataTravelers as fixed drives which allowed him to use Windows
Disk Management to partition and format multiple partitions. He didn't
know how they did it, and I haven't been able to find anything online.
Subsequent contacts with their technical support have resulted in a
deadend, they say that the drives are set as fixed at the factory and
cannot be changed.

Any help and/or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Raymond
