Hi all,

I already installed a 2 x port parallel printer PCI card in a Windows 2000
machine which works fine. Now wish to transfer this card to a new Windows Xp
Pro machine, but, of course, the original installation diskette/CD has been
mislaid.

WXP detects the PCI card and looks for a driver. Have tried scanning the
Internet but to no avail.

The board was manufactured in Taiwan but there are no identifying model
numbers apart from a Ultra2 chipset.

Does anyone have any ideas how a generic driver could be found on the net,
or the card could be installed using the driver on the W2K machine (but
without the .INF installation package).

Please post the FCC ID number that should be printed on the card. It should be a 3-digit number
dash then a 14-digit number.

Did you try Windows Update online, it may automatically detect it?

Are you sure the inf file isn't on your 1st PC -- I run Win98, and on
that there's a \WINDOWS\INF subdirectory where most installers seem to
have left their INF files.

Also, I'd be surprised if the manufacturer didn't have some sort of
web presence. Google on all the names you can see on the card or in
the dlls.

It is a widely held view in the USA - and unfortunately false - that all PC
add-ons have an FCC ID. They don't.

And the O/P basically said it didn't have any such identifying marks, non?

It was worth a try. If the company ever wanted to market the product in the USA, they would have
the FCC company ID number. Some have the ID number and never market here, but have the numbers
printed on boards to id the product as their own. I believe there is a similar organization in the
UK that is a manufacturer registry also. British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT)
works with manufacturers in the fields of IT, radio and telecom.

I have a parallel port add-in card that was sold through a rebadging Taiwanese marketing company. I
used the FCC ID registration number to track the actual manufacturer down to another company in
Taiwan. They had a website and I now have my drivers. It was just a suggestion, don't assume I
hold some false "widely held view".

In fact I did find an number H9MPAR40XX (preceeded by FCC) on the card and
a google search on this gave me two interesting links :

/Certification-1998.db which contains a W98 certification list of products
including this model number and the manufacture's name (SUNIX).

I then did a google on sunix to find the site www.sunix.com.tw and the Xp
driver.
