Starting about 3 weeks ago I can no longer open an attachment that is in an
incoming mail. Have searched the web for an answer but so far nothing has
helped

Outlook Express does not run in Vista. Windows Mail perhaps?

1: What is the file extension of the attachment?
2: Will it open if you save it to your HDD first?

See http://www.slipstick.com/problems/link_restrict.htm for the latest

I stand corrected. Windows mail it is. It doesn"t matter which ext: word,
excel or picture, nothing will open if it is sent with an attachment.
Thanks

As a workaround try saving the file to your desktop first.

You could try removing the mail account, reboot, and add it back.
