OT : Which free newsserver ?

I apologise for posting an obviously OT question, but this seems to me
like one of the most active plus knowledgeable NGs.
alt.internet.services is mostly spam and I don't know any other
appropriate group.

My ISP's newsserver is so often unavailable that I no longer even try
to use it. I live in such primitive conditions that I had to explain
to my ISP's chief tech that Usenet is NOT the same as usa.net. And I
have to use my real POP3 address, otherwise I can't log on. There are
no other ISPs in my state.

I read and post through Google but many posts don't show there
(probably because the posters disabled that), and my own posts show up
hours late. And I have to use a real email address, though I get
surprisingly few spam mail.

Can you please recommend some free *reliable* newsservers that I can
use ? A search turns up a bunch of them but it's hard to tell which
ones are reliable. The ones I've tried are also often inaccessible.

Thanks in advance.

http://www.teranews.com/

There is a $3.95 signup fee but you get a free account after that.
There are quota limits for the freebie account. They include all
newsgroups but obviously you'll consume your quota hitting the binary
newsgroups.

Thanks Cari and Christo. I'll try it out, and I don't really need binary either.

Thanks, but the problem is the fee. Not the amount which isn't exactly
a fortune even by our standards, but sending money to a foreign
country from this place involves a lot of hassle. Maybe I'll ask a
friend in the US to pay it for me but I don't like to do that unless I
really have to.
