Don't be a "Gamma" tester for AdUnAware 2007 until they stop "supporting"
AdAware SE !!!

"What?, but Tim, haven't they have stopped supporting AdAware SE already?"

NO, they have not.
They have stopped "supporting" AdAware SE Personal, the Free version.
They are Still supporting,
AdAware SE Plus,
AdAware SE Professional,
and AdAware SE Enterprise .

all of which use the Same data base but are not free.

They are still supporting them because they don't want to **** off the
people who are paying them money.

Quotes from the support forum,
=========
From a disgruntled user:
"I have to admit I am surprised with the short notice. Not too many
companies stop supporting an older version of their product only 6 months
after a new version is released. I am pretty sure that upper management will
not be pleased with Lavasoft's decision and may be renewing 6000 licenses
with another software company..."

From LS CalamityJane:
"We will only stop supporting SE Personal at the new year. Plus and
Professional users (and hence also Enterprise customers) will still be able
to retrieve definition updates."
=========

They want to force us to "Gamma" test their buggy AdUnAware 2007 before they
force their paying customers to "downgrade" to it.

I won't do it.

My respect for the company is now gone.

They have the right to stop supporting an old product if they want to of
course.
But that is not what they are doing, they are Lying, they are denying access
to definition updates for people that are using the free version but not the
paid version.

People in this forum have been great supporters and recommenders of AdAware
in the past, I have been one myself.

But now they LIE,
They say the old version is no good and can't keep up with today's needs,
but apparently it's good enough for the people who paid for it.

I will deal with buggy programs and poor customer support and even not being
the best, but when a company lies to me they get a permanent black eye.

If their going to stop supporting us, we should stop supporting them.

Tim

Yes Bob,
It was free, I've always appreciated that. But it was also the fact that it
was free that made it so popular that they could sell the other versions.

Many more people have the free version than ever had the pay version. We
have looked at UnAware 2007 in its first incarnation and have found it
wanting. We have refused to use it. If we won't use it when it's free, why
would people pay for it? Since all the SE versions use the same def files
what skin is it off their nose to let us have access to the same updates?
The answer is that they want to build a free user base for UnAware 2007 so we
can vet the product and work out all the bugs before they update it again and
then force the users of the other versions to update. But they can't do that
if they let us get updates to the defs for SE Personal because, as users in
this group (which has so strongly supported them in the past) have pointed
out, we won't touch it till it's improved. But if they cut the free users
out they figure well down load the 2007 version anyway, because it's free,
and help them get the bugs out.

There is no other reason I can't think of for not letting the free version
update when is uses the same defs as the other versions.

I will not be a "gamma" tester for them,
and you should not either.

Hint #2 (or 5 if you count my unenumerated hints)
Do you have a friend who has one of the other versions that's still being
updated?

"I have a secret
I cannot share,
It fills my heart
beyond compare,
Perhaps someday
I'll take you there,
To tell it now
would not be fair "
