John: Thank you for attempting to address this issue. I go to Control Panel,
Users and Passwors, open it up. I click on Advanced; I get 5 categories of
users: Administrators, ASPNet, Guest, Preferred Customer (which has Admin.
rights), and a 5th under my name (also w/ Admin. rts.). What I WANT is to
boot up under Preferred Customer which is the user acct. I have used ever
since I bought the machine 5 years ago & which has ALL my settings, files,
etc. IT NEVER HAD OR USED A PASSWORD, nor do I want one. I just want it to
boot up like it used to--automatically through the set-up screens onto my
desktop. HOW DO I GET IT TO BOOT to PREFERRED CUSTOMER? I have tried
highlighting that user category, but it boots instead into one of the other
user accts., "Administrator" , I think.
Please advise if there is a way. W/ XP Pro and Vista Ult. I get to select
at a boot-up screen which User acct. I want. With W2K, I do not seem to be
able to re-set which acct. I get to use (see) once I boot up into W2K. I
have read through the 1,767-page Win2K Professional Resource Kit book in
vain. It should be simple to pick which User acct. will boot-to-desktop.
Thanks. Thomas
