Open Dialogue Box Not Responding

When I do a "File Open" or click on the open folder icon,
I get a list of files to open. If I click on a file
shown it will open fine. If I need to change the folder
to look in by clicking on the down arrow Excel freezes.
I'm using Excel 2002 with SP-2. I have tested Word and
am able to change the folder fine. I started
experiencing this problem after I download an update but
I'm not sure which update it was. Thanks for any help.
