They are aimed mainly at image quality with any extra fps being a
bonus.

I used to like Omega drivers until I figured out that a couple of
games that had choppy opening videos was because Omega turns off
fastwrites by default. I've never had an issue having fastwrites on
with my 9800pro or X800XL so I want it on. I use the raw ATI drivers
and ATI Tray tools to control everything on the vid card. This is the
way to go, IMO. CCC is a real pig and I refuse to use them, even
though I've tried to live with them twice now.

I agree.

Just FYI Fastwrites can be enabled with Omega's driver:

1. Start Tray Tools, right-click/Tweaks/Advanced, and scroll to the
bottom of the list (Force AGP FastWrite ON). Put a black check
mark in this box. If the box a few up from that one is not checked
(Disable support for FastWrites), put a grayed check mark there
(yes this step is counterintuitive, but necessary).

2. Apply changes and reboot. Do NOT close Tray Tools before
rebooting!

3. After rebooting, double check the changes you made in step 1.
If the two boxes are still set the way you set them, again start Tray
Tools, right-click/Hardware/SMARTGART, and set Fast Writes
to "On". Apply change, click OK and reboot one last time.

Viola'!

Ok, thx. If I ever go back to using Omega drivers I'll remember that.

You missed one step. In the drop down box you have to select
compatibility tweaks. Now I know where it is, thx again. :-)
