After casually researching this board I plan to pick it up in the next
week or two. I will use my old 1.3 athlon and some ram from my tyan
dual system. It will be my standby comp and then next year I can
get a 3200 barton, 3200 or 2700 ram, a sata 2 drive and a new video
card to receive a massive upgrade - this is what attracted me to the
board, i can get in for so cheap with all the built in stuff and
really boost it in another year for little money...

..however, the sound seems to be an issue. That's all I read about is
how the sound storm cracks and pops. I have an audigy 2 in my main
comp now and its pretty good, if worse comes to worse I can throw my
old regular audigy in the a7n8x I suppose

I guess I just want final assurances that the consensus is that
everything rocks on this board except that some, a minority, have
problems with the sound and if so, that can be easily rectified with a
sound card install ??? I'm really tired this time of year and just
don't want to deal with any more bullshit

I'll watch this thread since I think I'm going to buy one also. I
realize that mostly people post to these groups because they're having
problems so maybe some problems get overstated. Hey, if I went by the
newsgroups I couldn't buy any board!

But I read about the noise problem in a review also so it isn't just a
few folks. I think I'll buy it from a vendor I know fairly well and
see what they say.

If the Deluxe is anywhere near as good & stable as my non-dlx v2.00 you
wont be sorry. I had no use for onboard SATA or Firewire when I bought
my board in mid May so I went with the non-dlx and put in an Audigy 2
recently. I like having parts I can swap from system to system too, all
that onboard stuff on the Dlx sort of turns me off.

deal with large wav files and tons of i/o. The faster the better.

have had my A7N8X deluxe ver 2 for about 6 weeks now.
I love it....no sound problems...easy to overclock
2 network connections come in handy to hook one to my 2nd system and the
other to a cable modem.
running one 160gb SATA drive without problems and fast.
great board.

Haven't played with my 2.0 dlx board that much, but so far nary a
glitch in the sound and the quality is every bit as good as my SBLive
5.1 that I retired upon installing my A7N8X. Don't play that many
games, but UT, UT2k3 and BF1942 all work nicely w/o sound
difficulties.

I'm much the same as you Kyle. I use my 2.0 Dlx board for some lightweight
graphics and a few games.
I'm into car racing games and like the sound of myself roaring around the
track, lol.
No sound probs for me (and I crank it up when no-one is home).

One small follow-up, I ran the old Audio Winbench tests on the Nforce
sound system, and found CPU utilization to be much lower with the
Nforce APU hardware/drivers versus the SBLive 5.1 and Creative drivers
I was using a few months ago, but I must confess, a mobo change also
took place, so the numbers are not a good scientific comparison (cpu
changed from 1400 tbird to 2088MHz XP clocked CPU, and memory is also
running at 166 now instead of 133 with old mobo).

One surprise for me was it only took AGP 8X cards.
