Not receiving all of my mail

I recently changed my computer and now run on vista (xp on previous pc). I
run PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus included. I also use the windows
firewall and defender. I have set up my email account correctly and
cross-checked it with the settings from my old pc but I am not receiving all
of my e-mails.
I have tested from various locations and concluded that only a proportion of
the mail is coming through (no error messages received whatsoever). If I am
logged on to the PC and someone sends me mail, it seems to come through ok
but if it is switched off most of the messages are lost.
I've switched the email filtering off the antivirus and deleted and reset
the email accounts but to no avail. Can anybody advise me how I can correct
this problem?

Thanks

Since switching to Vista, I, too, am not receiving all of my e-mail. I have
checked with my ISP and they have told me that I should be receiving e-mail
as it is going through their server without difficulty. I have McAfee
antivirus and have checked to be sure all of my e-mail settings are okay and
have disabled most filtering, but it's still not helping.

I hope someone can help!!
Thanks

For most McAfee antivirus software, you have to uninstall it to stop it
from creating new problems, not just disable part or all of it. This also
applies to most Norton antivirus software and a recent version of the
Trend antivirus software.

You may then want to run the program for cleaning up after uninstalling
McAfee:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may even have to delete the email account under Windows Mail
and then create it again, to do more cleanup after McAfee.

I'm not sure if this also applies to PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus,
but you could always uninstall it and find out.

If you want a replacement antivirus program, I recommend either avast! or
AVG for home use, either one with a custom install that tells it to leave
out
the part that scans email, or NOD32 for business use:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

http://www.eset.com/

For some, but not all, other antivirus software, just leaving email
scanning disabled is enough.

Thanks. Do you think the AVG Free Virus protection via grisoft is sufficient
to protect my pc? If so, should I delete the Spyware Doctor with antivirus
completely and then re-install just the Spyware part - or will this cause the
problems again?

I'm not familiar with Spyware Doctor enough to tell you. However, in
addition to avast! for antivirus protection, I have Ad-Aware and Spybot
Search & Destroy for spyware protection.
