My NAV2003 subscription expired. I went and bought another new CD for
NAV2003 and intalled it. It still shows that my subscription is expired and
will not load any new virus definitions.

Should I be able to purchase and install a brand new CD of the same program
and get another year of updates?

thank you

You did not need to buy another CD, just go to the symantec site and
pay for a years subscription.

Yes. I used Norton 2002 for years and always bought updates. Then I
uninstalled it, bought Norton Antivirus 2004, then had trouble with
that installation so reinstalled 2002. I got another year of updates
because I had paid for a new CD. But I first called their Customer
Service and explained.

Go to www.symantec.com and find Customer Service (not tech support).
They have an 800 number. They're going to want your Accound ID, which
you can find in the Antivirus Help menu under, I think, About.

thats true...the updates were $49 but a new CD was only 20. I just assumed
a new CD would get me another year of updates.

Norton antivirus and it's live update can be full of wierdness
my little story (a bit long maybe but show what i mean about possible
weirdness

I once purchased a 2nd hand computer from the place I work for $50-
when I got it it was fully running but all applications had been
removed (uninstalled). I bought and installed software including
system works 2003 and got the free 12 months subscription working
fine. I upgrade the PC but used ghost to copy the win98 and all my
data and applications.Norton antivirus continued to run well and
update fine.
One day (september 2003) the norton antivirus 2003 told me
subscription had expired (i thhought it was not quite due but we won't
quibble about that)
I try to buy an update and the online subscription service tell me I
am about to renew a subscription to Norton antivirus 2000 registerd to
ccccc pty ltd (the company I work for) which expired Jan 2001 about
two years before I bought the initial pc.
So following several customer support suggestions I uninstall System
works and re-install with no joy. Still tries to re-subscribe to nAV
2000
then we use a utility suggested by symantec called RNAVxx.exe and then
re-install Norton system works - same thing
Finally uninstall System works then delele all directories which have
"norton" or "Symantec" then use regedit to delete all keys thet have
"norton" "symantec" or "Nav"
Then re-install systemworks and success
Minor guilt since it seems to have set new expiry of live update to
next year which is 11 months more than I am entitled too.
