These two seem to be a troubled pair because when I
upgraded to SP4 just a few days ago things went berserk.
My auto protect for NA 2003 cannot start, and my email
scanning says that there is an error.

I have all of the services needed for NA 2003 running and
in great shape. All of the latest updates are installed as
well. This did not happen under SP3, only when I upgraded
to SP4.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please
post. I am perplexed by this myself.

Thank you!

I tried reinstalling it. 3 times.

This happens every time.

Argle - did you check with Symantec support/website?

I checked the website but to no avail. And you cant even
email Symantec about it. Phone support costs $30 per
incident, so I have come here.

I found the same issues happening to people on the SP4
reviews on Cnet.com. Lots of people are saying that SP4
screws up Norton but Microsoft and Symantec haven't
acknowledged it yet.

Any more help is appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with navce 2002. After
looking on the symantec web site they suggested looking
for keys in the registry, and if certain ones are not
there to do a reinstall.
Here's the link:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-
security.nsf/docid/2000112109184948

I know this points to a page descibing the issue arising
after an upgrade but its the only thing that I could
find. I looked through my registry and the following keys
were not present:
Windows NT/2000
Check for the following registry keys with the Norton
AntiVirus service started. Some will not display unless
this service is started.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Defwat
ch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NAVAP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NAVAPE
L
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NAVENG
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NAVEX1
5
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Norton
AntiVirus Server

after reinstalling they still were not there. WTF? This
is obviously an issue that needs a better answer than
reinstall.

Curious. I upgraded one of my Win 2K systems a while ago and NAV 2003 runs
fine on it both before and after SP4. Did you remember to disable NAV when
applying the SP?
