A friend of mine has a problem with printing. I have not seen the problem
myself, it has only been described to me over the telephone.

He says he can print from Outlook, Internet Explorer etc but not from
Word!!! It sounds very odd to me and I don't know what to suggest. The only
thing I did suggest (and that didn't work) was to make sure the correct
printer was selected when printing.

Any thoughts?

This can happen if the incorrect or faulty printer driver is installed. MS
Office applications do not use the standard Windows Print dialog and often
exhibit different behaviour when there are printer driver related issues.

I suggest removing the printer and possibly cleaning up the print system on
the computer (see http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm).

Then visit the printer manufacturer's web site to get the driver
specifically for the installed operating system (e.g. Windows 2000 or
Windows XP). Follow the printer manufacturers instructions for installing
the printer - this is particularly important for USB connected printers.

Also check that Office has the lastest service pack
installed. We have had problems where Word would not
print to a newer HP printer but Excel could. Installing
the latest Office SP resolved the issue.
